One of its previous owners replaced the deck with plywood and simply painted over it. Wooden snipes were originally decked either with mahogany, or plywood covered with canvas.
The paint on 9371's deck was badly peeling. I took my sander and stripper to it and went right at it in removing the paint. I needed some inspiration to feel like this project wasn't going to take forever. I also wanted some before and after contrast to make my progress immediately apparent.

Welcome to Snipe #9371 Restoration Blog
During 4th of July weekend 2010, I took ownership of an all-but-abandoned, 57-year old wooden sailboat called a Snipe. Six months into the project, I'm starting a blog to share my progress with those who know me and perhaps others who don't but who may have some interest in my experience. Check back, as I update this site 2-3 times per month.
